Pavones

(Sept 8 - Sept 14)

We spent a week here, but didn't end up taking that many pictures or videos. Oops! The town of Pavones isn't really a town, more of a beach/surf spot with a restaurant or two and a mini-grocery. Golfito is the bigger town with the church/stores/banks, etc, and was at least 30 minutes north of where we were staying.

Day 1 here was mostly spent driving from Dominical, and then we went to the beach that was by our house for a bit. (Not sure what it was called...and didn't take any pics)

Day 2 we spent bumming around, working on the blog, and generally be lazy, since it was pouring all.day.long.

Day 3 we drove to Golfito to go to church. They have a nice little church building there. The kitchen was in the chapel, and there was a bathtub in the restroom....

I have no idea why she's so sad looking...

Dress shoes: optional. Pura Vida!

After church was another bout of rain, and sitting around playing games, reading, and making stuff out of play doh and grocery bags:

Day 4 we went to Pavones beach, where Justin rented a board and tried to surf. It had apparently been too long since he surfed, because he says he was only able to get up once. To be fair, there was quite a rip tide and it was hard to get out far enough to catch the waves.

After many failed attempts and being slammed into the rocks on the beach:

the whole beach looked like this ^^^

We decided to head further down the beach. I'm not sure if it's technically still part of Playa Pavones, or if it's considered a different beach. It was basically empty and still full of rocks:

Day 5 we visited Playa Zacundo. This was one of those "Junk Beaches", as the girls called them, since it was full of junk. They took full advantage and made themselves a house...

...complete with two bedrooms (and their personal toiletries), a bathroom with a toilet seat and shampoo, a dining room with a stump table, and a kitchen way in the back.

Day 6 we visited Piedras Blancas National Park. Turns out, due to heavy rain and paths washed away, there was only one path open. We decided to hike it, but it turned out to be a huge bust. Almost nothing to see...except this nasty centipede and some cool mushrooms. It was a very long and scary hike for pretty much nothing.

Here are some other photos from our time in this area....mostly from the house or where I can't remember what day they were from :)
